Editing on the Fly

Can you edit web pages directly on the host? Yes, you can.  You can do it using MS FrontPage (as long as FrontPage server extensions are installed on the web server) by going to FILE then OPEN WEB.

Type in the URL (http:/www.mysite.com). Then press OPEN. You should get a login for your web host

You will see all of the files and folders of your site.  Just open a page and start editing it.

WARNING:

Just be advised, editing a web site in this manner can result in some major problems:

  1. Changing web hosts will be difficult since all of your site is located in just one place.

  2. If you cannot get to the page that allows editing because it is down, you will not be able to make changes

So how to avoid this?  Simple, build your site on your local system using MS FrontPage, an HTML Editor, Visual InterDev, or notepad.  Then use an FTP program to upload it.  This way you ALWAYS have options!  Also make backups of your site at least once a week or daily if you make changes to your site daily.
