CP/M is the predecessor to MS-DOS.  It can be considered the first personal computer Disk Operating System. Intel's Isis is the only earlier Disk based operating system I can think of on 8080 class machines. CP/M-86 was derived from CP/M-80 but for 8086 processors as well, there was also CP/M-68K for 68000 based systems. PC-DOS / MS-DOS came out about the same time as CP/M-86, and include some compatibility in how the system services can be accessed within a .com program.
